OUR ENTITY

 

La Red Nacional de Grupos Gestores was formally founded in 2004 and is defined as a second-tier association that integrates and coordinates the Grupos Gestores of the country, constituting a representation mechanism through which local economic development initiatives are promoted.

In turn, the Grupos Gestores are local, permanent, independent, nonprofit, associations created with an integrated business approach by individuals representing different sectors of the community, who work voluntarily to promote economic development in their municipality.

We currently have 100 Grupos Gestores organized, so that the La Red Nacional has coverage in 100 municipalities in 18 departments. La Red Nacional has 8 Regional Offices for Local Economic Development located in San Marcos, Retalhuleu, Totonicapán Mazatenango (Suchitepéquez) Purulhá (Baja Verapaz), Chimaltenango, Huehuetenango and El Quiché, and a Headquarters in Quetzaltenango.

La Red Nacional de Grupos Gestores is an organization formed by the Grupos Gestores of the country that is dedicated to the growth in productivity, investment and competitive skills of the Guatemalan territories.   We are committed to improving entrepreneurs’ and producers’ capacities through strategic alliances and innovative processes in order to reach our objective of increasing employment and income for the Guatemalan population.

November 2009 – May 2014

Supporting Competetivity in the Southwest Region of Guatemala

Description: The end goal of the program is to contribute to improving competitiveness of the Southwest region of Guatemala.  A local economic development approach is used as a means of increasing incomes and generating a source of employment. The specific objective is to improve the competetivity of 500 producers and business ventures in key sectors of the southwest region of Guatemala.  This is achieved by improving the capacity of producers and promoting public-private alliances.

 

November 2007 – February 2011

Development of Small Communities supported by La Red Nacional de Grupos Gestores

Description: the general objective of the Project is to contribute to the reducing poverty of low level producers of cocoa and bamboo in the municipalities of San Antonio and Chicacao Suchitepéquez.  This is achieved by increasing their productivity and their incomes by improving production processes, design and elaboration of new products and also improving commercialization processes.


December 2008 – August 2009

Study on Local Economic Development –PDRL Huehuetenango

Description: The general objective was to develop a series of studies to understand and systematize the conditions of production and competitiveness of the commonwealth-municipalities Huista, Mamsohue and the Northern Border of the Department of Huehuetenango.  The purpose was to identify productive projects that will be financed by el Proyecto de Desarrollo Rural y Local in order to improve the quality of life of the inhabitants.

 

March 2007 – March 2011

Strengthening La Red Nacional de Grupos Gestores. 

Description: The objective of the project is to contribute to the economic development in areas served by la Red Nacional de Grupos Gestores, thereby improving the living conditions of the inhabitants.  The project includes the development of methodologies and a variety of tools for institutional strengthening and the development of projects. The Project also provides for the implementation of processes aimed at improving competitiveness and productivity through exchange visits, organizing special events, creating and operation of five offices and Local Economic Development and the organization of 60 Grupos Gestores and design strategies for public-private partnerships, among others. Also, work is being undertaken on the development of 270 projects to make the relevant processes for managing them.

 

May 2008 – October 2009

Systematization of Experiences in Local Economic Development

Description: The project consisted of the systematization of knowledge on the subject of Local Economic Development on a country level.  The information was distributed to provide support tools for management and so that it could continue to be used with the construction of new knowledge on the subject, starting from the existing information for the development of our country.



July 2008 – June 2010

Establishment of the Center Region Node

Description: The project contributed to improving the lives of the inhabitants of the center of the country, organizing eight Grupos Gestores in the Departments of Chimaltenango, Sacatepéquez and Guatemala. Studies were developed on Economic Potential and Competitiveness Agenda. Finally, in order to operationalize the actions of the Grupos Gestores, a Local Economic Development Office was established in the main town of Chimaltenango.



April -  July 2007

Program to promote competitiveness in the interior of the country, “Competitiveness with a Local Focus”

Description: The project's objective was to improve the business climate in the municipalities of San Pedro Sacatepéquez and Quetzaltenango in order to minimize the main constraints to local economic development. This intervention is part of the strategic axes 2 and 4 of the National Competitiveness Agenda. The lines of action were: Awareness and Action Plan presentation in each municipality; subscription agreements for the adoption of the Action Plan for Competitiveness concluded with the municipalities and Grupos Gestores and San Pedro Sacatepéquez Quetzaltenango, San Marcos; and the implementation of actions.

 

August - November 2007

Elaboration and monitoring of diagnostic processes and strategy development and local economic development initiatives in selected municipalities in the departments of Huehuetenango and El Quiché

Description:  The objective of the consultancy was to assist in selected municipalities (Chiantla, Todos Santos Cuchumatanes, Santa Barbara and the department of Huehuetenango Cuilco and Chiche, Sacapulas Chinique and the department of El Quiche) development and implementation of strategies for local economic development in a concerted manner between the municipality and local stakeholders. The product was the development of documents of Local Economic Development Strategies for each of the participating municipalities.

 

August – December 2006

Institutional Strengthening

Description: The project was to support the processes of La Red Nacional de Grupos Gestores to carry out initiatives to improve competitiveness within the country through the development of various tools and methodologies such as: Identifying Barriers to Local Economic Development; Procedures Guide for prioritizing projects; Ethics Code of the National Network, Methodological Guide for building Business Plans for Group Managers.  Business plans were prepared for five management groups, action plans were formulated for Competitiveness for three municipalities, promoted a Memorandum of Understanding with the ANAM to boost competitiveness and redefined a business plan of the entity.

 

June 2005 – September 2006

Supporting la Red Nacional de Grupos Gestores

Description: The project consisted of creating new development tools and processes to promote economic development through La Red Nacional de Grupos Gestores, through the formulation of productive projects, design a system of impact assessment and design and implementation of a communication system for La Red Nacional de Grupos Gestores, among others.

 

December 2005 – August 2006

Implementation of Start-up Projects in municipalities located in different Departments in the Country

Description: The main objective was to contribute to local development by increasing local capacity to formulate proposals to create, design and promote projects by learning through the program "Start-up Projects" which were part of a strategy for the implementation of small projects.  The benefit of the participating municipalities and to provide experiential learning groups so that Grupos Gestores know and implement procedures for identifying and managing projects according to a specific methodology. 36 projects were implemented starting in as many municipalities.

 

November 2005 – January 2006

Reconstruction and economic recovery in communities affected by Tropical Storm Stan

Description: The project involved the reconstruction of basic infrastructure in five communities of San Pedro Sacatepéquez, San Marcos (Nueva Reforma, Chichicastenango, Chim I, Chim II and Chim III) where: roads and trails were enabled, five (5) mini-irrigation systems and 37 agricultural plots (equivalent to 111 cuerdas of land) were reactivated.  Temporary employment was generated to reactivate the local economy and training on new productive activities was provided. 160 beneficiaries received a total of 480 avocado trees and 600 chickens. 

 

January –  April 2005

Interphase of the Program on Economic Development promoted by los Grupos Gestores

 Description: The initiative consolidated operating and financial strategies of the Economic Development Program promoted by the Grupos Gestores through the consolidation of methodologies, analysis and restoration-oriented criteria, manuals and procedures of the process for organizing Grupos Gestores.  Research into the potential for production and elaboration of local competitiveness programs was undertaken. We also defined and implemented operational and financial strategies that support the institutionalization of the Grupo Gestor and La Red Nacional. Moreover, Grupos Gestores were organized and produced studies of economic potential and competitiveness agendas in 6 municipalities.

 

 

ORGANIZATION OF EVENTS

The entity has ample experience organizing, planning and implementing a wide range of events such as: trainings, conferences, meetings, fairs, Business conferences among others.  Among the more recent organized events is that National Congress on Local Economic Development which took place in October and The Ecotourism Fair in the Verapaces in November 2009.
